Why PICO matters before you search

A vague clinical question produces a vague literature search. PICO forces the question into four searchable parts: the Population you care about, the Intervention being considered, what it's being Compared against, and the Outcome that actually matters. A well-formed PICO question is usually a better starting point for a database search than the question as it was originally asked.
